Does Our Boardroom Reflect Who We Are?
Does Our Boardroom Reflect Who We Are?
This question surfaced clearly in my recent work with Kanaflex Corporation, a legacy manufacturer built by makers who take pride in craftsmanship and quality, where the average employee tenure is over 20 years.
Before creative direction began, I built trust with their marketing director, Jamie, to clarify vision and strategy, because strong collaboration drives better results. My photographer, Ranka, and I connected with the employees as people first, creating the comfort and trust that allowed them to open up naturally in front of the camera. Then, we worked alongside Jamie and the leadership team from photo selection through installation, shaping a story grounded in decades of industry expertise.
My goal was not to add more, but to focus on what mattered and translate it into a boardroom experience that reflected who they are today. Standing in the completed space, seeing their legacy expressed through their most tenured makers, it carries weight. That is the standard my team and I bring to every client: show up, build trust, and execute with intention.
If you are asking the same question about your own space, here is where I would begin:
- Commit to one primary objective: Decide what the story must accomplish before designing anything, and commit to that single goal so your message does not compete with itself.
- Sequence strategy before design: Select 3 key elements that support your primary objective and resist the urge to communicate everything at once.
‍ - Build the right team at the right time: Align leadership on the narrative first, then bring in the right creative team to translate that clarity into a cohesive visual and experiential expression.

Moment of Gratitude
This month, I was especially grateful for my team. Taking the time to build the right team, strategize together, and even share tacos over lunch is not incidental to the work, it is what makes work like this possible. I could not have done it without each of them and the expertise they brought to the table.
- Jamie’s leadership and insight as the marketing director
- Ranka Photography helping me capture the story of each Maker inside the manufacturing facility as I lead creative direction
- Precision of our print and installation team made this possible thanks to Mike, Chris, and Garrett
